About This City
Red Lion was named after one of the first pubs in town, the Red Lion Tavern. Red Lion was once famous for the many brands of cigars made in the town. To this day, in the annual New Year celebration, the town raises a giant cigar instead of dropping a ball. Due to the tobacco industry, Red Lion once contained the most millionaires per capita of any town in the United States (a distinction it has since lost).
Red Lion is home to an extensive array of local underground bands and independent local artists. Red Lion was a main stop along the old Maryland And Pennsylvania Railroad, known quaintly as the "Ma and Pa" Railroad.
Red Lion is located at 39°53'56"N, 76°36'23"W (39.898800, -76.606491). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 3.3 km˛ (1.3 mi˛), all land.
